U.S. Senator Warns Public Health Crisis Worse Than COVID

(FreedomJournal.org)- There’s a public health crisis that’s raging in America, and it’s not just COVID-19.

There is a severe mental health crisis going on in the United States right now, and it’s being made worse by Democrats who continue to push lockdowns and restrictions on daily life that are keeping people from living the life they’re used to.

That’s what Republican Senator Roger Marshall, from Kansas, told reporters on Wednesday. Marshall is a physician himself, so he would know a thing or two about health care and mental health.

He is saying that the radical left is continue to make the future of children in America a political issue. Marshall said that children are the ones who are suffering the most from liberal policies that are keeping kids away from their friends and disrupting their routines as they force them to stay home from school.

He explained:

“This is the worst shape of mental health our youth has ever been and my daughter’s got two little kids at home. I’ve got to tell you, she’s stressed. I’m stressed. My wife is stressed, because we know our kids should be in school … so the mental health of this country has never been worse.”

Marshall pointed to the science that has shown that children have a very low risk of contracting coronavirus while in a school setting, if proper precautions are taken. In other words, schools should continue to be closed just for the sake of being ultra-safe. There are plenty of mitigation measures that have now been in place for almost a year that can help prevent the spread among younger people.

Now, Marshall said, it’s time to get students back to school. He said:

“Most of the teachers I talk to want to work. They want to get back to school. They want to do their job, and I will contend that there is a safe and responsible way for kids to be in school right now.

“Look, there are times in your community where maybe we need to send the kids home, but for the most part, the chances of a child having a serious and life-threatening infection from this virus is, I don’t know, one in a million type of situation. Seniors, on the other hand, is just the opposite.”

At a town hall with CNN in mid-February, President Joe Biden committed to opening most K-8 public schools in the U.S. for “five days a week” by the end of his first 100 days in office. He said:

“I think that we’ll be close to that by the end of the first 100 days. You’ll have a significant percentage of them being able to be open. My guess is they’re going to probably be pushing to open all summer, to continue like it’s a different semester.

“The goal will be five days a week.”

Time is ticking on that goal, though. If Marshall had his way, liberal governors would push public school boards to do more, or at least empower them to let the kids return to school.
