(FreedomJournal.Org)- Senate Democrats aren’t happy with the president’s decision to close the borders during the ongoing Chinese coronavirus pandemic. Members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, in a letter to the acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, claim the president is “blatantly misinterpreting” the law.
Don’t they care about keeping Americans safe?
In the letter, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee – all Democrats, of course – expressed their concerns about closing the border with Mexico. The Democratic lawmakers claim that the decision constitutes an overstepping of the government’s authority and posed a series of questions to DHS Secretary Chad Wolf about the closure.
“While protecting our borders is critical during this COVID-19 pandemic, we are deeply concerned that DHS is blatantly misinterpreting its limited authorities under the CDC’s Title 42 to override existing federal statues – a move with no known precedent or clear legal rational,” Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, along with nine other senators, claimed.
“Making matters worse, this unprecedented expansion of executive power appears to be entirely hidden from public and Congressional oversight,” the letter also reads.
The letter was a response to the decision made on March 20th to close the borders to Mexico, to reduce the number of people coming into the country potentially carrying the Chinese coronavirus. Secretary Wolf announced that the southern and northern borders of the United States would be closed to non-essential travel, and all illegal aliens trying to get into the country would be turned back.
Democrats don’t seem to like it when illegals are turned away.
The reference to “Title 42” refers to a section of the U.S. legal code that relates to the processing of people who enter the country illegally. Title 42 ensures that all illegal entries are not “apprehended” but “encountered.” It also ensures that they are “expelled” and not “deported.”
The move was praised by the far-left American Civil Liberties Union on Thursday.
👏”A public health crisis does not give the Executive Branch a free pass to violate constitutional rights…[or] operate outside of the law.”

“Thank you @SenatorLeahy and @JudiciaryDems for demanding the administration’s legal justification for shutting down asylum at the border,” the ACLU Twitter account posted.
If the ACLU is praising the decision during a time of unprecedented crisis, you know there has to be some kind of political motive here.
