(FreedomJournal.com) – Following Senator Ted Cruz’s announcement that he will self-isolate for a week after coming into brief contact with a coronavirus patient during the Conservative Political Action Conference, Rep. Paul Gosar announced he will shut down his DC office for the same reasons.

In a statement published on Sunday, Gosar explained:

“I have been informed that during the CPAC conference members of my staff and I came into contact with an individual who has since tested positive for, and is hospitalized for, COVID-19.”

He then described how he had been in “extended” contact with that person. “We shook hands several times,” he added.

Rep. Gosar confirmed that neither he nor his staff were exhibiting symptoms but were, like Senator Cruz, taking precautions to ensure that they do not accidentally spread the virus through their constituents and colleagues.

“In order to prevent any potential transmission, I will remain at my home in Arizona until the conclusion of the 14-day period following my interaction with this individual,” he said.

The congressman’s Washington, DC, office will be closed for the next week and his staff will telecommute until the 14-day period is over.

Despite his sensible and responsible actions, Rep. Gosar still found himself under attack from Democrats and journalists who took issue with the way he described the virus.

In a tweet, Gosar used the term “Wuhan Virus,” in reference to the geographical origins of the virus.

Twitter users took the opportunity to attack the congressman, with one saying, “We all know you’re a racist, but it’s pretty dumb of you to advertise it like this.”

Despite the vile and unhinged attacks, Rep. Gosar told his social media followers to “Keep the person in the hospital in your prayers.”
