Nancy Pelosi Will Target Trump’s Phone Calls In Witch Hunt Investigation

( Nancy Pelosi is moving forward with plans to undertake a 9/11-type commission to investigate the Capitol riot on January 6.

On Monday, the Democratic House Speaker from California said Congress would be working on creating an independent commission that would be tasked with investigating the insurrection.

It will be similar the commission that was established to investigate the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

As Pelosi wrote in a letter to House Democrats:

“Now, as always, security is the order of the day: the security of our country, the security of our Capitol, which is the temple of our democracy, and the security of our Members.”

Following the actions on January 6, Russell Honore, a retired lieutenant general, was appointed to take a look at the security that was present on Capitol Hill following the attacks.

As Pelosi wrote in her letter:

“For the past few weeks, General Honore has been assessing our security needs by reviewing what happened on January 6 and how we must ensure that it does not happen again. He has been working with Committees of Jurisdiction and will continue to make proposals.

“It is clear from his findings and from the impeachment trial that we must get to the truth of how this happened. To protect our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex … and relating to the interference with the peaceful transfer of power, including facts and causes relating to the preparedness and response of the United States Capitol Police and other Federal, State and local law enforcement in the National Capitol Region.”

One of the pieces of evidence that apparently pushed Pelosi over the edge toward this 9/11-type Commission is a phone call between former President Donald Trump and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The call appeared to show a big divide between the two Republican leaders, with Trump siding with the rioters over McCarthy. That’s according to Representative Jamie Herrera Beutler, who spoke about the details of the conversation.

While witnesses were not called during Trump’s second impeachment trial, the Commission could decide to subpoena witnesses to testify.

Al Felzenberg, who was a spokesman for the original 9/11 Commission, explained:

“If you are an official at any level of the government … reading 70% want a full accounting and you’re in a job that in any way reports to the public, [if] you’re not cooperating it does look bad. If you have nothing to hide, there’s no reason not to testify.

“Who they were and why they were there and what kind of preparation they made in their own communities would be something I’d want to know. What happened? How many people? How did they get there? Where did they come from?

“Clearly, one of the motives of the people who got into the building was to stop the tally. You can’t have that in a democracy. You can’t have attempted coups like that.”
