Iran Claims To Have Arrested People Behind Nuclear Scientist’s Assassination

(FreedomJournal.org)- Iran has arrested some people who they say were involved in the assassination of their chief nuclear scientist.

According to reports from ISNA, a “semi-official” news agency in Iran, one of the advisers to the Iranian parliament speaker said they have evidence that Israel was involved in the attack on Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, which resulted in his death. He even alluded to American involvement, or involvement of other nations.

For their part, Israel hasn’t confirmed nor denied their involvement. The adviser, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, said he wouldn’t share details of who was arrested — for security reasons — but said they wouldn’t escape without justice.

He said:

“The perpetrators of this assassination, some of whom have been identified and even arrested by the security services, will not escape justice. Were the Zionists (Israel) able to do this alone and without the cooperation of, for example, the American (intelligence) service or another service? They certainly could not do that.”

On November 27, Fakhrizadeh was driving in a vehicle with his wife as well as 11 guards near Tehran. A machine gun controlled by a satellite with “artificial intelligence” and advanced cameras fired 13 times after zooming in on his face. That’s the report that came from an official with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

According to a Reuters report, witnesses told the state media in Iran that a truck exploded before various gunmen opened fire on the scientist’s car.

Security officials from Western nations and Israel have said that Fakhrizadeh was a key player in developing the nuclear program in Iran. They even believe he was at the head of what’s known as “Project Amad.” That’s a secret program the country started in 1989 to begin researching a nuclear bomb, the BBC has reported.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has said that in 2003, that project was shut down.

Two years ago, the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, said their country obtained documents that proved Fakhrizadeh was leading a program that was continuing Project Amad in secret.

Iran has, of course, insisted that the nuclear program they run is for peaceful purposes. They say they’ve never tried to build a nuclear weapon. And they say that Fakhrizadeh wasn’t involved in any nuclear weapon-type program or attack.

United States military and intelligence officials are somewhat worried that Iran may soon try to carry out retaliatory attacks on Israel as well as America. January will mark the one-year anniversary of the U.S. airstrike that killed Qassem Soleimani, who was Iran’s top general. That airstrike also killed other militia leaders from Iraq close to the airport in Baghdad.

A senior military official in the U.S., who has knowledge of what’s going on in the region, said this week that Iran might try to take advantage of the fact that the U.S. is pulling troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq. They may see this, as well as the departure of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier from the Persian Gulf, as a chance to strike.
