Even NYT Calls out Cuomo and De Blasio for Botched Coronavirus Response

(FreedomJournal.Org)- The New York Times took a day off from unfairly attacking the president for his response to the coronavirus on Wednesday and focused its aim on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo.

In a long feature piece, the Times took apart the responses by both Democratic New York leaders, suggesting they haven’t done everything they can do and that the measures they have taken may well be counterproductive.

The piece, entitled “How Delays and Unheeded Warnings Hindered New York’s Virus Fight,” says that both Cuomo and de Blasio failed to keep up with the virus.

“The federal response was chaotic. Even so, the state’s and city’s own efforts failed to keep pace with the outbreak, The Times found,” the report says.

At the beginning of the piece, The Times claims that despite Cuomo and de Blasio pledging to take action against the virus on March 1, they didn’t follow through.

“A 39-year-old woman took Flight 701 from Doha, Qatar, to John F. Kennedy International Airport in late February, the final leg of her trip home to New York City from Iran. A week later, on March 1, she tested positive for the coronavirus, the first confirmed case in New York City of an outbreak that had already devastated China and parts of Europe,” the report said. “The next day, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, appearing with Mayor Bill de Blasio at a news conference, promised that health investigators would track down every person on the woman’s flight. But no one did.”

The outlet went on to say that for several days following the first positive COVID-19 test in New York, the coronavirus began spreading across New York and neither de Blasio or Cuomo offered made residents confident in the response.

The Times said that both politicians continued repeating that the state’s hospitals were among the best in the world and that plans were in place, and that New York has been trained for events like this by 9/11, Ebola, H1N1, and even the Zika virus.

New York, evidently, wasn’t prepared – and The Times couldn’t blame it on Trump this time. So, they blamed the governor and the mayor.

Just check the comments on the article, and you’ll see how much they got right for once. Readers seemed extremely pleased the outlet was finally taking Democrats to task rather than unfairly laying all the blame at the feet of the president.
