(FreedomJournal.Org)- Senator Ted Cruz, the firebrand Republican from Texas, took Democrats to task this week over the enforcement of stay-at-home orders that are seeing people receive citations for driving in their cars.
Responding to news that a woman in Pennsylvania was cited by police for “going for a drive,” Cruz tweeted, “This is absurd.”
“To Dem politicians (and it seems to be only Dems doing this, eg Wolf in PA, DeBlasio in NYC, Cooper in NC), protect public safety, but WE DON’T LIVE IN A POLICE STATE.”
This is absurd. To Dem politicians (and it seems to be only Dems doing this, eg Wolf in PA, DeBlasio in NYC, Cooper in NC), protect public safety, but WE DON’T LIVE IN A POLICE STATE. Resist authoritarianism & don’t abuse power. Driving a car alone is not a public health threat. https://t.co/tTNszTGNgA

Cruz told Democrats to “resist authoritarianism” and not to “abuse power.”
“Driving a car alone is not a public health threat,” he said.
A 19-year-old woman in Pennsylvania was reportedly pulled over by state police, according to Pennlive, and questioned. She was given a nontraffic citation for “going for a drive,” despite the fact she was alone and not endangering other people or spreading the virus while alone in her car.
Ryan Tarkowski, a spokesman for Pennsylvania state police, said the woman was initially pulled over for a vehicle code violation. State police were reportedly told to use their discretion when it came to giving citations to people but were also encouraged to work with the public to establish a culture of voluntary compliance.
“At this time, law enforcement is focused on ensuring that residents are aware of the order and informing the public of social distance practices,” Tarkowski said. “While the order is mandatory, voluntary compliance is preferred.”
Similar stories are being reported all over the world. In the United Kingdom, an LBC Radio caller claimed her husband was arrested for walking their dog after the police told him it was “unessential travel.”
“Two policemen said he wasn’t allowed to be there and he was arrested,” the caller claimed.
