CAPITALISM: SpaceX Giving Fast Internet To Rural Texas School District

( SpaceX, the space exploration and rocket company founded by Tesla CEO and eccentric billionaire Elon Musk, is reportedly giving free and fast internet to students in a rural part of West Texas. Musk’s company has partnered with a public school system where connectivity is not currently adequate, making it difficult for students to utilize online services in their education.

The Ector County Independent School District released a statement to the press explaining how they would benefit from the new project from early 2021. It will initially give 45 families free access to the Internet using SpaceX’s “Starlink” service. It comes as the company launches a public beta test for the new space-based communications network.

Ector County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Scott Muri said that families, children, and educators in the community struggle to connect to the internet.

“But because of SpaceX and their Starlink technology, they are right now circling a series of satellites above this area, and they will beam a high-quality broadband signal to our families, providing high-quality, high-speed broadband access so our children can continue the learning process.”

SpaceX is an American company that is growing, in part, because of President Donald Trump’s tax cuts and the resilience of the economy even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is yet another example of how America’s capitalist system allows economic growth and innovation to help people.

As the program expands, SpaceX is expecting to give free Internet access to a further 90 families in the area. The program will be paid for by a combination of funds from a non-profit called Chiefs for Change, and by the district.

Currently, no incentive exists for telecommunications firms to provide Internet to areas with small populations. SpaceX could fix that with the new Starlink technology that makes it possible to connect remote areas to the Internet via satellite.
