Biden Receives Most Prominent Endorsement Yet — From His Former Boss, Obama

(FreedomJournal.Org)- It was only a matter of time until it happened, but it finally happened: Former President Barack Obama officially endorsed his former vice president, Joe Biden, for president in 2020.
Obama made the announcement via a video he released on Tuesday, saying in part:
“I’m so proud to endorse Joe Biden for President of the United States. Choosing Joe to be my vice president was one of the best decisions I ever made, and he became a close friend. And I believe Joe has all the qualities we need in a president right now.
“So join us. Join Joe. Go to right now. Make a plan for how you are going to get involved.”
For months, Obama held off on making any public comments regarding the race for the Democratic nominee. Many viewed this as a smart move, since it would probably be a foregone conclusion that the former president would endorse whichever candidate emerged as the victor. Making comments favoring one candidate over another in the primary could eventually hurt his reputation and the candidate’s chances if who Obama endorsed during the primary didn’t end up winning the nomination.
At the end of 2019, Obama told other Democrats at a private fundraising event that, “Whoever emerges from the primary process, I will work my tail off to make sure they are the next president.”
Now, that person is Biden, who Obama knows very well.
In his video, Obama praised Biden on a number of issues, and even specifically addressed the current coronavirus pandemic, inserting an apparent shot at President Donald Trump as well. He said:
“Joe helped me manage H1N1 and prevent the Ebola epidemic from becoming the type of pandemic we’re seeing now.”
Obama didn’t just praise Biden in his video, though. He spoke highly of the other Democratic candidates, saying it was “one of the most impressive Democratic fields ever.” He specifically mentioned Bernie Sanders, the apparent runner-up in the race, saying:
“He and I haven’t always agreed on everything, but we’ve always shared a conviction that we have to make America a fairer, more just, more equitable society.”
Obama is just the latest Democrat to endorse Biden for the presidency, but he is by far the most prominent. Just about every former candidate from the Democratic primary has endorsed Biden already, with Senator Elizabeth Warren apparently set to do so as well on Wednesday.
The Democratic Party is rallying behind Biden, whether the actually like him as a strong candidate or not. Whatever someone may say about the Democrats, the one thing they always seem ready to rally around is taking down Trump. They may not be united in policies, procedures or theories about how the country is run, but they know they don’t want Trump to sit in the White House any longer.
Will they be successful in their plight to unseat him? They’ll have quite the mountain to climb, for sure, as does any challenger to an incumbe
